Genesis 24 is the longest chapter in the book of Genesis…and it is filled with romance and redemption. In this chapter, we find an earthly story with a heavenly meaning—a physical picture with a spiritual truth. This chapter continues to tell us of the true story of God’s great love for us and the great lengths that He has gone to reach us, to woo us, to secure for us eternal redemption through the great love of God’s one and only Son.
In Genesis 24, we read how Abraham sends his servant to find his son, Isaac, a bride. A father…a son…a servant. The parable here paints an earthly story with a heavenly meaning—written with the real lives of real people. The unnamed servant (the Holy Spirit) is sent by Abraham (the Father) to find a bride for Isaac (the Son).
The heavenly meaning of this earthy story parallels our story, doesn't it? Our story as the bride of Christ and how the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father for Son to extend an invitation of love, life, and eternal redemption.
And just as in the earthy story, the servant finds a bride for the Son. And just as Rebekah journeyed with the servant to meet the son (Isaac), we too are on a journey with the Spirit to meet the Son (Jesus). And just like Rebekah, we have questions about this Son…what’s He like? Is He strong? Is He good? Will He love me? Does He love me? The Spirit, like the servant, responds emphatically—YES! He IS strong. He IS good. He WILL love you. And He DOES love you—even when you were at your worst, He still loved you.
Listen to our study of Genesis 24 and discover the amazing lengths God goes to just to let you know how much He loves you.
