“And Abram gave [Melchizedek] a tenth of everything.”
On his way home from rescuing his nephew, Abram encountered this man named Melchizedek who blessed Abram. In response to this blessing, Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
But why? Abram wasn’t coerced to give a tithe. He wasn’t commanded to tithe. He wasn’t required under the law to tithe. This encounter hundreds of years before the law.
Abram simply responded to the blessing of God by giving a tenth of everything.
